Adult Sailing Instruction
30.1 Introduction to Spinnakers
Designed for sailors who have taken 10.1 and 10.2‚ have a Medium Air Rating or can demonstrate equivalent experience‚ this course introduces spinnaker handling including rigging‚ roles‚ setup‚ rigging‚ gybing‚ takedowns‚ safety‚ and troubleshooting.
This class meets once a week for three weeks with required practice between sessions.
This class will be taught aboard One Design (OD) Ensigns and/or Tunable Solings and J-24s depending on class make-up and progress and conditions.
Prerequisites: 10.1‚ 10.2‚ a Medium Air Rating with an Ensign Endorsement. A Soling/J-24 Clinic (Course 20) is suggested.
Proficiency of skills at this level is required for an “S” (Spinnaker) Stamp‚ enabling the sailor to rig and fly a spinnaker during Open Sail when sailing an OD Ensign.
