J-24 Clinic for First-Timers

- Have you been sailing on Ensigns and want to try a J-24 but don’t want to hold others back?
- Are you not quite ready to plunge into racing but want to experience a bigger‚ faster boat?
- Do you want to learn in a friendly environment and with plenty of time for questions and hands-on?

This special introductory clinic is for first-time J24 sailors.

We’ll start at the dock‚ covering the parts of the boat‚ the major differences between a J-24 and an Ensign‚ setting up‚ deciding where to sit and why‚ where and when to move on the boat‚ rigging the proper jib for the conditions‚ working a winch and steering with a tiller extension.

Then‚ with the help of experienced instructors on-board‚ we’ll leave the dock for a short test sail‚ weather permitting. We will return to the classroom to debrief and answer questions. Finally‚ we’ll help you connect with other J-24 sailors via the GroupMe for future experiences.

This session will be oriented to casual/fun sailing‚ not racing. We won’t cover spinnakers at all. At the same time‚ this is not a “basic” sailing class either. Instructors will assume that you have a good grasp on points of sail‚ tacking‚ jibing‚ heading up and falling off.

This will be especially useful if you plan to enroll in an Intermediate Adult Class next summer.

This course will be taught by experienced sailors and teachers Rebecca Logan and Jason Fellows.

Prerequisites: A Light Air Rating with an Ensign Endorsement. No Ratings or Endorsements will come as part of this clinic.
