Youth Sailing Instruction

Youth Level 2

Youth Level 2 is the next step in a young sailor’s development and is available to kids 12-17 years old who have successfully completed a Youth Level 1 course at MCSC with an instructor’s recommendation to continue to Youth Level 2.

Youth Level 2 is designed to build on and refine sailing skills acquired in Level 1‚ through practice and additional on-the-water experience and deeper skills instructions. Students will sail aboard a variety of centerboard sailboats‚ receiving instruction and cross training in a variety of roles including sail trimmer‚ bow-person‚ driver and pit/mast position. Depending on conditions‚ spinnaker handling may be introduced.

Like sailing in general‚ which is unpredictable‚ Level 2 students can expect to repeat this course -- learning new things each time -- on the way to a "rating"‚ which‚ combined with a Youth Membership‚ opens access to student use of the Sailing Center’s fleet of Catalina centerboards doing opening sailing hours.

Class is held on Monday‚ Tuesday‚ Wednesday and Thursday for two weeks‚ with Friday reserved as a rain-date‚ need be.
