Kids and Crew
MCSC’s unique Kids and Crew Program puts any mix of family members (two or three per boat) aboard our fun fleet centerboard sailboats to play games‚ build team skills to be on the water together. A crew might be made of a daughter and a dad‚ a grandson and a grandmother‚ or a son‚ a daughter and their mom.
With an emphasis on fun‚ these family groups learn to rig and launch the boats‚ recover from capsize‚ experience adventure on the water‚ work together to solve problems‚ practice a variety of sailing maneuvers and safety skills‚ sail to Milwaukee harbor destinations‚ and learn new sailing games.
New for 2024: we will sail part of this class sailing aboard our Catalina 14.2s‚ and if conditions‚ fleet and progress allow‚ may mix in the RS Toura‚ in order to offer new and different experiences.
Graduates will be invited‚ if they wish‚ to be entered as team into the dinghy class of a subsequent MCSC regatta. Details will be shared by the instructors.
While the water will be cool (not icy)‚ expect to get wet in this class either from spray‚ splashing or possible capsize.
PREREQUISITE NOTE:
** Kids 8-17 should have prior sailing experience at MCSC in either Prams Level 1 or Youth Level 1 and have a requisite swim test on file.
** Parents should have at least a Light Air rating and be prepared themselves to swim.
This course will be held with up to 8 boats on the water‚ each with up to 3 people. Members of the same family will sail together. The fee for each participant is $96.
